US horse trainer Stacy Westfall has lost her famous mare Roxy, with whom she competed in reining competitions bareback and without a bridle.

Roxy – Whizzards Baby Doll – died on February 8, two days after sustaining traumatic injury after apparently becoming cast in her stall on the night of February 5. Westfall said on her website that Roxy was treated for two days at Valley View Animal Hospital in Dover, Ohio, before being humanely euthanized on February 8.

“Roxy was due to foal in early March, and although a C-section was performed, the little sorrel stud colt proved too weak to survive,” she said.

Roxy was the second-highest earning offspring of Whizard Jac, and was both NRHA futurity champion and USET champion. She won two All-American Quarter Horse Congress Championships and two Reserve Championships, the NRHA Futurity freestyle championship, and the Tulsa Reining Classic twice, to name just a few.

The video of Westfall riding Roxy Roxy’s bareback and bridleless at the 2006 All American Quarter Horse Congress went viral on the Internet and led to the pair appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres show.

Roxy, ever the lady, gave Ellen a memorable ride before appearing before the live studio audience and accepting peppermints from Stacy.

Roxy had four foals who were carried by recipient mares.

She was owned by Greg Gessner.

Hello Chris your letter was so long ago ,but i wanted to tell you i too can relate, because i had to give up my riding due to ruptured discs in lower back, but i found out i had a natural talent with the bird’s so i am now spending all my time and love on raising and breeding parrots…I am old and crippled for a 62 yr old but haven’t lost 1% of my love for my animals …or the people who love them ,just like you and me ,i so much pray for you to get your dream answered one day to again ride your tenn walking horses ,but if that doesn’t happen just know there are alot of animal lover’s out there with similiar hurdles as yours to overcome to make their dreams come true …and God willing ,we get our wish ,but if the Lord doesn’t Grant our wish then may i just say ,lets all be Grateful for the time and love we did get to share with our 4legged angel’s ..God Bless and keep you in his heart …anna
