Showjumper Eric Lamaze is one of three finalists for male athlete of the year at the 2011 Ontario Sport Awards.
Lamaze, of Schomberg, Ontario, had a successful year in 2011, finishing second at the Rolex Top 10 show jumping Final and winning the CN International in Calgary in September.
Along and his late mount Hickstead, Lamaze has been at the top tier of international show jumping for the past several years. He is the reigning Olympic individual gold medalist, and was part of Canada’s silver medal-winning team.
Lamaze is up against kayaker Adam van Koeverden and figure skater Patrick Chan for top male athlete award, which will be announced along with the winners in seven other award categories, on April 19 in Toronto.
