Ireland in early lead at Tatts horse trials

Irish Olympic hopeful Camilla Speirs and Portersize Just A Jiff lead after the CIC three-star dressage at Tattersalls International Horse Trials in Ireland.

Speirs and Portersize Just A Jiff scored 41.4, with Great Britain’s Oliver Townend riding ODT Sonas Rovatio to second with 54.2 with Irish combination Bolabaun and Captain Geoff Curran in third on 54.8.

The bulk of the field is yet to do their dressage tests, including Mark Todd and Major Milestone, Oliver Townend on the former Andrew Nicholson ride Armada, Britain’s Polly Stockton and Regulus, and Irish riders Elizabeth Power, Geoff Curran, Mark Kyle, and Michael and Trish Ryan.

British riders have the top two spots in the Irish Field CCI***, with Ruth Edge and Rogersdale leading on 41.4, and current World Number 1 William For-Pitt and Bay My Hero second with 41.6. Ireland’s Sarah Wardell and Killeenduff Boy is in joint third place with New Zealand’s Jonelle Richards on Mere Oak with 50.4.

Dressage continues overnight at the Co Meath venue with the cross-country and showjumping elements of the competition taking place over Saturday and Sunday.
