Man dies tending to agitated horse in trailer

A man has died in Lancashire, England, after being injured by a horse in a horse trailer.

The man, 51, from Middleton, in Greater Manchester, is believed to have suffered a fractured skull. His wife suffered a broken leg and chest injuries in the incident.

Their teenage daughter was present during the incident. She was not hurt.

The family was towing the horse trailer on the A56 in Haslingden on Wednesday evening when the horse became agitated

It managed to dislodge the enclosure in the horse trailer which restricts its movement.

The man was injured when he entered the horse box to sort out the situation. His wife was injured when she went to help him.

A vet had to be called to sedate the horse before paramedics could remove the unconscious man. He died died at the scene.
