An elderly man who allegedly intended to assault the Prince of Wales and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, with a bucket of horse manure, has been given bail.
Sam Bracanov, 76, who was born in Yugoslavia, is alleged to have been planning to carry out the assault while the couple were undertaking a walkabout in central Auckland yesterday, during the couple’s New Zealand tour to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.
He appeared in the Auckland District Court this morning, where he denied a charge of preparing to commit an assault.
His arrest came shortly before the walkabout.
The New Zealand Herald newspaper reports that Bracanov told reporters outside the court that his plan had been to throw a bucket-load of horse manure mixed into a slurry over the royal couple.
He will appear again in court on November 27.
A condition of his bail is that he stay at least 500 metres from the royal pair.
