A train has collided with a horse trailer in Arizona, killing two horses and a dog.
The accident happened at the crossing on Verde Ranch Road, Paulden, on Sunday morning.
Deputies from the Yavapai county Sheriff’s Office went to the scene about 7.20am.
They found that a Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company freight train had struck a two-horse trailer as it was being towed across the tracks.
The driver, a 71-year-old local man, told authorities his visibility was limited because of ice on his windows.
His truck made it over the line but the lead locomotive, one of three attached to a freight train, struck the horse trailer, uncoupling it and pushing it along the tracks.
The driver has been charged with failing to stop at a railway crossing.
