A man in Iowa has been injured trying to save horses from a burning barn.
Duane Meyer was struck in the face by a gate as he and his sons were trying to rescue horses from the barn southwest of LaMotte, which caught alight on Thursday evening.
Meyer was taken to hospital for treatment.
The Quad-City Times reports that the barn was well ablaze when LaMotte firefighters arrived.
Bellevue, Andrew and Maquoketa Fire Departments were called to assist.
Some horses were saved from the blaze, but it is understood others perished.
