Unbeaten Australian race mare Black Caviar kept her unblemished record intact with her 23rd consecutive victory on Saturday, in a race at Flemington named in her honor.
In the Black Caviar Lightning – which she has now won for the third successive year – she sprinted to victory in track record time over her two stablemates Moment of Change and Golden Archer.
“Nelly” posted 55.42 seconds in the 1000 metre race, breaking a 25-year-old track record.
It was her first race in seven months, since winning the Group I Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) at Royal Ascot last June.
“Shit. It’s good to have her back,” trainer Peter Moody said after the race.
Black Caviar has now won more than $7 million in stakes.
