A horse has been slaughtered for its meat in Palm Beach County, Florida.

The illegal butchering of horses has been an ongoing problem in Miami-Dade and Broward counties in recent years.

It is the first instance of horse butchery in Palm Beach County in recent memory.

The body of the horse was found in northwest Loxahatchee on Monday night. Its remains were inside garbage bags in a canal near 180th Avenue and 32nd Street.

Authorities confirmed that meat had been stripped from the carcase.
