Large horse sculptures on a Saudi Arabian roundabout have been demolished following a ruling by the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh, that they are forbidden under Islam.
A media spokesman in the Emirate of Jazan region confirmed the principality had received a letter from Al-Sheikh explaining the need for their removal.
Officials sent in a digger to demolish the sculptures.
Statues of people and animals are banned under Islam as they represent idolatry. However, Islam does allow artworks of plants and landscapes.
The website, Jazan Today, carried pictures of the demolished artworks.
