Aachen will host Nations Cup event in five disciplines until 2025 after its official “O” contract was extended by the German Equestrian Federation (FN) and the World Equestrian Festival.
FN (Deutsche Reiterliche Vereinigung) President, Breido Graf zu Rantzau said he was delighted with the extension of the contract, and Aachen president Carl Meulenbergh also expressed his pride at the development of CHIO Aachen.
The CHIO Aachen is thus the official equestrian show of the Federal Republic of Germany and the only venue in Germany, at which Nations’ Cups are allowed to be staged.
The “O” stands for “Official” (CHIO=Concours Hippique International Officiel).
It has presented Nations Cups in five disciplines since 2008 – Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Driving and Vaulting.
The existing contract runs until the year 2015. Nations Cups in the disciplines jumping, dressage, eventing, driving and vaulting are staged in Aachen. More than 350,000 spectators are expected to visit the showgrounds during this week’s CHIO Aachen 2013.
International events have been organised at the Aachener Soers venue since the early 1920s, and the club was founded 115 years ago.
The World Equestrian Festival at CHIO Aachen presents Germany’s largest and most prestigious sporting event.
During the 10-day fixture, organisers are expecting over 350,000 visitors and 112,000 had already attended by Wednesday evening.
The event has attracted 557 horses and 375 athletes from 30 nations who are competing for €2.67 million in prize-money.
The main stadium where the jumping events takes place has a seating capacity for 40,000 spectators.
