FEI President Princess Haya is to take a resolution proposing an international day of the horse to the United Nations General Assembly in September.

The resolution has the support of the FEI Bureau, which met in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Tuesday.

It is proposed that December 13 would mark an international day of the horse, in recognition of the importance of horses to the global economy, cultural heritage, and sport.

The next United Nations General Assembly takes place on September 23 at UN Headquarters in New York.

Haya was designated as a United Nations Messenger of Peace in September 2007.
