“Horse whisperer” Monty Roberts needs no introduction to the horse world, and in this new book the life lessons from The Man Who Listens to Horses are broken out in a manner to help readers focus on their own “life action plan”.
While not specifically aimed at equestrians, Life Lessons from The Man Who Listens to Horses: A Guide to Inspire Your Own Journey is considered a companion volume and refresher for the messages in The Man Who Listens to Horses. It is available in both eBook and hard copy.
Life Lessons from the Man who Listens to Horses – A field guide to inspire your own journey
by Dr Susan Cain and Debbie Roberts-Loucks; Foreword by Monty Roberts
e-book $US8.99 from Amazon; 99pp.
Roberts was among the first trainers to gain mainstream attention for his natural, non-predatory methods in working with horses. So many of those lessons can be extrapolated into everyday life, and for those in the corporate world. His Join-Up® techniques are also used to help veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder regain a sense of trust.
Life Lessons helps readers focus on finding their strengths, rebounding from failure, leveraging success, and creating an action plan for moving forward.
Chapters include Adversity; Rebounding from Setbacks; Acceptance; Vulnerability; and Why Values Matter. An appendix gives key take-home points by chapter.
Co-author Debbie Roberts-Loucks (Monty and Pat’s eldest daughter) says the book serves as a refresher to Monty’s original book, and extends the lessons in it for further exploration by the reader. “Most important, the new field guide allows readers to think about how the lessons apply to their own lives,” she says.
The Corporate Learning Institute’s Dr Susan Cain, who co-authored the book, said they “combed through years of Monty’s life-from his early years as a child subjected to his father’s harsh discipline to the rodeo ring, through his career development, all the way past his first meeting with the Queen of England.
“Readers will follow his critical learning path, and create their own reflective learning journal.”
Cain is also planning a workshop focusing on the Life Lessons book.
“Readers who order The Man Who Listens to Horses with Life Lessons from The Man Who can go from contemplation toward creating action steps, and we know that action steps have legs and can help people change their lives.”
Those using the book are urged to treat it as a reference manual “and remember that each new learning lesson will arrive cleverly disguised as a challenge or problem to solve.”
