British Olympic eventer Zara Phillips is expecting a baby with her husband, Mike Tindall, early next year.
Phillips, 32, won a team silver medal at the London Olympics and is also a former World and European eventing champion.
“Mr and Mrs Mike Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara Tindall is expecting a baby in the New Year,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Monday.
The couple married in July 2011, just three months after Tindall’s cousin Prince William married Catherine, whose first child will be born this month.
Phillips is the second child of the queen’s daughter Princess Anne, and Mark Phillips. Tindall is a former England centre rugby player.
“The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, Mr Phillip and Mrs Linda Tindall, and members of both families are delighted with the news,” the palace statement said.
“This baby will be the first child for Mike and Zara and the third grandchild for the Princess Royal.”
Zara’s brother, Peter, has two daughters, Savannah and Isla, with his wife, Autumn.
