The remains of an estimated 1000 horses and donkeys have been found in woods in Azerbaijan, in what appears to be the wastage from a meat processing operation.
The website APA reported that the remains were discovered by a forester near Gimilgishlag village, in the Khachmaz region, which is in northeastern Azerbaijan.
The remains, about 300 meters from the road, were reported to authorities.
APA quoted forester Ilyas Ilyasov as saying that he had recently been appointed to his job and, during an inspection, had found three sites where the remains had been dumped.
It was suspected that the animals had been used in meat production and the remains then dumped in the forest.
