New Zealand eventing rider James Avery is to be the new stable rider for British eventer Tiny Clapham this season.

Avery, 21, had been based with fellow Kiwi riders Tim Price and Jonelle Richards near Marlborough in Wiltshire.

A farrier by trade, Avery is originally from Nelson. In 2011 he won New Zealand’s National Young Rider Three-day Event title at the South Island Three-day Event.

Clapham’s previous rider was the late New Zealand eventer Tom Gadsby, who was killed in a rotational fall at Somerford Park last August.
