A pony stuck in mud in a New South Wales creek has local police to thank for his rescue in Australia.

Richmond Local Area Command dispatched the Police Rescue Squad around 8am on Wednesday to help the pony, reported to be trapped in Booerie Creek, near Lismore.

It appeared the pony had wandered into the creek a little further than what he was used to and got stuck in mud.

The owners were unable to get him out and called for help.

One of the officers donned his wetsuit and placed a harness under the pony’s front legs and chest.

He was pulled to freedom using the squad’s rescue-truck winch.

The rescue operation was completed in less than an hour.
