Showjumper Kamal Bahamdan has been named runner up in Saudi Arabia’s Arriyadiyah Awards for Sports Excellence.
The Arriyadiyah Awards for Sports Excellence recognise distinguished athletes and players in Saudi Arabia, as well as young talents and promising sports men and women.
Bahamdan, who won team bronze and was individually fourth at the London 2012 Olympic Games, was presented with his award by HRH Prince Nawaf bin Faisal, General President of Youth Welfare at the at The Ritz Carlton, Riyadh on February 15.
The Saudi Arabian Athletics Federation’s Youssef Masrahiwas awarded first place, and Emad al-Maliki from the Saudi Arabian Karate Federation was awarded third place.
“I am extremely proud of this achievement, and must thank those people that nominated me for an award in the first instance, and those that then voted for me,” Bahamdan said.
“This award demonstrates how far equestrian sport, especially showjumping, has come over the last decade, and the sport’s increased level of awareness on the Saudi Arabian sporting stage.”
