Irish eventer Fraser Duffy has claimed his first international win after making his debut for Ireland only last month.
Duffy rode Irish Sport Horse Fernhill Revelation to win the CCI2* Barroca D’Alva in Portugal at the weekend, on whom he had placed third at Portugal’s Vale Sabroso on his Irish debut and sixth at Barroca last week.
Lying fourth after dressage on Friday, Duffy went clear on the cross country course and left all the poles standing in the show jumping phase to finish on his dressage score of 48.1, which was enough to beat the overnight leader, Spain’s Gonzalo Blasco Botin with All Pan Pan, who incurred four jumping faults.
Duffy also accounted for ninth place in the CIC3* at Barroca, with another Carol Gee Irish Sport Horse, Boleybawn Fernhill, in a competition that was won by Elaine Pen from the Netherlands, on Dostowjesky. Belgium’s Karin Donckers won the CCI1* with Lamicel Charizard.
