A woman in Florida faces animal cruelty charges over the care of eight horses.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported on its Facebook page that 43-year-old Deanna Biscardi, of Keystone Heights, was arrested on Friday and charged with eight counts of cruelty to animals.

Six of the horses were taken to Clay County Animal Control’s Green Cove Springs facility, where staff will care for them and attempt to return them to health and normal weight.

The sheriff’s office worked in conjunction with the county’s animal control staff, including director Jennifer Broadhurst, who was on the scene on Friday when the horses were removed from Biscardi’s property.

Biscardi was booked into the Clay County Jail and was being held on a $US20,000 total bond.

The sheriff’s department said it would notify the local community if any of the horses became eligible for adoption or auction.

It is understood the remaining two horses subject to the charges had been repossessed earlier in the month by their original owner and were receiving good care.
