A stirring video about man’s history and relationship with the horse has been created to promote the $10 million Dubai World Cup, taking place at Meydan Racecourse today.
The world’s richest horse race will be televised by The Jockey Club Tour on FOX Sports, with Simon Bray reporting from Dubai while Greg Wolf, Richard Migliore, Alyssa Ali and Andy Serling will provide analysis and commentary from the FOX Sports studio in Los Angeles.
Epsom Derby winner Ruler of the World (IRE) is the morning line favorite at odds of 9/2. The field of 16 horses includes two American-breds: Ron The Greek and Cat O’Mountain.
Since its inception in 1996, the Dubai World Cup has been won by American-based standouts such as Cigar, Silver Charm, Well Armed, Curlin and, in 2013, Animal Kingdom.
“The international flavor, the huge purse and the unparalleled pageantry of the Dubai World Cup all combine to make this a unique event, and those who watch the telecast will get a true feel for the global nature and popularity of Thoroughbred racing,” said Jason Wilson, the vice president of business development for The Jockey Club, which is funding the series.
The show will include segments on the lifestyle and racing scene in Dubai, the top international competitors in the race, an analysis of the race and a betting challenge among the on-air talent. There will also be features and commentary emanating from the live feed from Meydan.
The partnership between the FOX Sports Media Group and The Jockey Club is a multi-year agreement that was announced in August 2013.
After the Dubai World Cup, there will be seven other telecasts featuring several of North America’s most prestigious races for older horses.
