A horse seen being dragged while tied to the rear of a vehicle has sparked an inquiry by police in Dorset, England.
The incident is alleged to have happened around 7pm last Wednesday in the area of Alexandra Road, Bridport.
Dorset Police said the caller who witnessed the incident said the horse fell and appeared to have sustained injuries.
Two men were then seen to beat the horse with a rope.
The police appeal brought a strong response on social media, which has resulted in the horse being found.
It has reportedly been moved to a safe location.
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward, especially anyone who may have captured images or video footage on a smartphone.
A police spokesman said: “We would urge anyone in the community to come forward and allow evidence by means of a statement to be taken and allow the RSPCA Inspectors and Dorset Police ensure the people responsible for this are held to account.”
A British RSPCA spokesman said: “This was clearly a horrible incident and a horrific way to treat an animal.
“We need to hear from anyone who has any information about those responsible and urge them to call the RSPCA in confidence on 0300 1234 999 or call Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident i02: 421.”
