More than 120 teams have entered for the inaugural Dubai Desert Triathlon, which incorporates running, cycling and horse riding, later this month.

The contest on April 19 includes a 40km loop of Dubai International Endurance City (DIEC) on horseback, followed by a 25km cycling stage at the Al Qudra cycling track and a 5km run through the desert.

The event is held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and is organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in partnership with Meydan Racecourse.

Prizes will be awarded to the fastest team, triathlete, and horse rider in male, female, and junior categories, as well as the fastest cyclist and runner, and the best conditioned horse.

Entry is free to the event, and horses are being provided by Meydan and Dubai International Endurance City stables. Competitors who are not registered riders can do the run or cycle phase, and they will be matched with a rider to make up a team.

Entries have been received both nationally and internationally, and several entrants are intending to do all full triathlon themselves.

Prizes will be awarded to the fastest team, triathlete, and horse rider in male, female, and junior categories, as well as the fastest cyclist and runner, and the best conditioned horse.

The event is held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and is organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in partnership with Meydan Racecourse.
