A million-dollar arabian horse race scheduled on the day of France’s famous Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp is the richest yet for the breed.
The 40% prize money boost from the previous €700,000 stake for the Qatar Arabian World Cup has created the world’s first €1 million ($US1.4m) race for purebred arabians.
The race is being staged under the patronage of Sheikh Mohamed bin Faleh Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) and promoted in conjunction with France Galop. The race is on the same programme as the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in the first weekend in October.
The Group One race is for purebred arabians horses aged four and up, and will be run over 2000m.
