Little Norton’s sinkhole plight might not have been a full-scale drama, but it was certainly a dilemma.

The little guy ended up stuck in a small sinkhole in Chatham County, Massachusetts, on Friday morning, and firefighters were needed to help him to freedom.

Norton, 15, fell into the fresh sinkhole, which was probably the result of the collapse of part of an old septic tank system.

His owner, Brenda Nickerson, was unable to rescue him, so the Chatham County Fire Department came to the rescue.

Sinkhole horse rescues often require the use of heavy lifting equipment, but not in this case. Firefighter Ryan Holmes used a shovel to dig an escape ramp for Norton.

The fire department said Norton was agitated by his ordeal, but appeared unhurt.
