A new auction for elite eventing horses is to take place later this year at the Blenheim International Horse Trials.
The Elite Event Horse Auction is a joint venture between leading equestrian auctioneers Brightwells and Blenheim Palace.
A selection of high quality four, five and six-year-olds, and a limited number of intermediate and advanced event horses, will be stabled on site at the event from Tuesday, September 9. Buyers will be able to view and try the auction horses on the days leading up to the auction, in the Churchill Arena on Friday afternoon. A catalogue and video footage of the auction horses will also be available three weeks before the auction.
The event is another string in the bow of Brightwells, which already stages Elite Auctions of Dressage Horses and Show Jumpers at Addington and high profile National Hunt Sales at Cheltenham.
The Blenheim International Horse Trials run from September 11 to 14.
Brightwells spokesman Richard Botterill said the company was honoured to be chose as Blenheim Palace’s official auctioneers for the auction. “Blenheim International Horse Trials are world renowned and will provide the most exclusive shop window to showcase an outstanding collection of future talent,” he said.
Selection days are under way in Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe. Horses accepted for the auction will have passed stringent veterinary and x-ray assessments, which will be available for prospective purchasers to view while at Blenheim. X-rays can also be emailed to clients Veterinary Surgeons .
“Many of the overseas three day events such as Pau and Boekelo have event horse sales and with the UK being the home of eventing we should have one, too,” Blenheim event director Mandy Hervieu said.
“We are delighted that Brightwells want to partner with us and we think this will add yet another interesting activity to the event.”
